HarperCollins Study Bible

The HarperCollins Study Bible, published in 1993, was a combined effort of more than 60 Bible scholars under the sponsorship of the Society of Biblical Literature.

Following a brief introduction, the HarperCollins Study Bible presents the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) of the Bible text, including the Apocrypha. Each book is preceded by a short introduction and accompanied by extensive notes on the text. Black-and-white maps and tables are incorporated into the text, while color maps, tables, and other informative material are included in the following portion.

The HarperCollins Study Bible is a good choice. The notes, a product of a large team of scholars, are extensive and helpful. A weakness is that there is not more in the way of introductory and historical information.
