A really cool thing about Zeal is that sites that are listed in Zeal have a way of finding their way into the LookSmart database. This applies to non-commercial sites only. Commercial sites will have to be submitted to LookSmart through normal routes, and it ain’t cheap.

Although owned by LookSmart and supplemented by paid staff, Zeal continues to be a largely volunteer project. Editors can explore and expand their own areas of interest by building categories and listing sites that they find on the Internet.

LookSmart is the directory provider for MSN, Excite, AltaVista, and several other sites, such as local ISPs and on corporate sites. LookSmart’s directories are divided into commercial and non-commercial areas. Zeal editors can contribute only to the non-commercial areas.
